Duke’s Exclusive Painter - Chapter 23
Chapter 23
After a while, Roselia came to her senses first.
“She tore my drawings to her liking.” Cedrin wondered if that would be enough to cause her to be offended enough to fight so fiercely, but he didn’t ask it because of her feelings.
“It was a portrait I was supposed to send to the Duke…”
His heart full of doubt was completely gone by Roselia’s words that followed.
“What’s the student’s name?”
Roselia listened quietly, when she saw him reacting suddenly, she widened then she laughed loudly again, haha.
“And again…no, it’s nothing. You…” Just as she was about to say something more, she thought for a moment and then closed her mouth again, saying that it was nothing, Cedric got up from the sofa without asking her further questions.
“If you don’t have a place to stay, stay here.”
“Really?”
“Didn’t you come all the way here for that in the first place?”
She smiled bashfully without saying anything. Cedric wanted to ask about her family history, but held back. He decided that it was better to stand up hastily and let her speak of it first.
“Marsha.”
Cedric called the maid, and ordered her to prepare a bedroom for Roselia. Roselia bowed politely towards him and followed Marsha. The hostility she emitted the first time they met was nowhere to be found.
He crossed his arms and looked over the door where she had disappeared.
‘This was the only place you could go, uh.’
Those words were proof that Roselia recognized the place where Cedric resided was safe.
A place where there is someone she trusts. A haven in the midst of such heavy rain.
When I thought of that, strangely enough, I felt satisfied. It felt like she was the lingering kitten I was taking care of and followed me for the first time.
‘She’s like a kitten.’
Cedric moved quietly thinking that there is no more metaphor suited her very well than this.
As I sat down on the chair in front of the desk again, and looked through the documents, I felt strange like I was floating. After a moment later, this feeling scattered like mist, as he started to get immersed himself into the paper works.
The concentration that spreaded up was strange. The conversation I had with Roselia kept running through my mind.
“Who drove you out?”
“The chairman. The kid I fought was the chairman’s niece.”
