Reborn As A Cripple - Chapter 8
I will bring back my engagement with Reyna. I promised to do so, and it was something that I had to do, but I was currently disowned by the marquess of Dukehardt, and I didn’t know exactly how I could become engaged again to Reyna, the princess of Hermenea.
That’s right, [JRO] was an MMORPG, not a romantic simulation game.
Of course, there wasn’t an event in the original story where you could marry Reyna, and I didn’t know any information about this world that isn’t in the [JRO] strategy wiki.
But what I can tell is this. It’s 100% impossible to get Reyna by having connections with the nobles or using any kind of tricks.
I’m confident that I’d be stuck at the first meeting stage, to begin with. I’m really bad at communicating.
However, I’m a [JRO] player more than being a bad communicator.
So, I’m going to make full use of [JRO]’s strategy information, the first thing I’d like to think about when thinking about this is, ‘What is Reyna’s position in [JRO]?’
In order to explain it, I have to talk about the events of the whole Hermenean Kingdom, but to make it short, there was an event that happened in Hermenea Kingdom which is the [School Arc].
To make it short, at the [Hero Academy], the biggest academy in the Kingdom of Hermenea, there have been frequent incidents of people going missing. In order to investigate, the player infiltrates the school.
And so, the [Hero Academy] was a seven-year school, which in Japan was a combination of high school and university, and Reyna appears as the oldest student there and the president of the student body.
Well, it was a common Hermenean [Heroic Academy Arc] story, but the characters, including Reyna, were so strong that parties were repeatedly destroyed in mock battles with students that frequently occur in the [Hero Academy Arc].
The story has a heartwarming atmosphere, but the difficulty level was unbelievably high, which was quite a meme for [JRO] players.
After the [School Arc], it is connected to the [Kingdom Uprising Arc], and after defeating the dark fallen Sieg, you could join Reyna and she was still insanely strong.
In Reyna’s case, looks are one thing, but perhaps even more so was her insanely biased stat distribution towards physical stats, which made her so popular with [JRO] players.
If the story of [JRO] was right, Reyna should have been admitted to the [Hermenean Hero Academy] this year.
So, for now, I’m going to try to enroll in the [Hermenean Hero Academy].
◇
Let’s enroll in the [Hermenean Hero Academy]! As the name suggests, the [Hermenean Hero Academy] was established with the intention of training people who could become heroes in the future!
And what kind of people does the school consider to be “people who are likely to become heroes”?
And it seems that in the Kingdom of Hermenea, the occupation of ‘Farmer’ for which I was given was not considered to be very strong, or weak.
Therefore, it was safe to assume that even if I take the entrance exam honestly, I will be rejected at the time of application screening.
However, although there is a de facto occupation filter in the Hero Academy, it does not say that ‘Farmers’ were forbidden to enter.
I think that’s where even I, a ‘Farmer’, could take advantage of.
To be honest, once I pass the application screening, all I needed to do was sit in a classroom and take the practical exam, so I think I could make it.
And there were two main ways to pass the screening process.
The first one was the [Noble’s Admission Recommendations].
This is a way to pass the entrance exam itself, not just the screening process, by getting a letter of recommendation from an influential nobleman.
In fact, Reyna and I were supposed to be admitted to this slot. Well… I’ve been disowned, so that idea’s been dropped. And because Algeo disowned me there’re no nobles that I could rely on at the moment.
The second one was the [Adventurer’s Admission Recommendations], this category was the one I’m most interested in.
This one was for people whose birth was unknown or that their occupation was not very strong, but if the head adventurer’s guild or higher recognizes their abilities and writes a letter of recommendation, they would be allowed to take the written exam and practical exam.
This information was not disclosed in [JRO], but it seems that only two or three people each year are admitted through adventurer recommendations.
There were about 300 students per grade at the [Hero Academy], so that’d one percent. I would have given up in my previous life, but in this life, I’m aiming to be the strongest, and I’ll show them that I’m one of the best in a hundred.
So right now, I’m on my way to the adventurer’s guild.
[Adventurer’s Admission Recommendations]. It says that you need to show a high level of ability as an adventurer, but the only applicants are kids who have just barely gotten their ‘Jobs’.
Therefore, of the adventurer ranks that ranged from the lowest F to the highest S-rank, I’ve heard that if you’re a D-rank adventurer, you can pass with flying colors, but my rank is C.
I’d like to say that S is the best time to start, but if S rank is required, I won’t be able to make it to the entrance exam, so I’m happy with C for now.
I told the receptionist briefly, “I’d like to take the [Adventurer Admission Recommendations]”, and she showed me to the branch manager’s office.
◇
“Why won’t you give me a recommendation!”
“No, I’ve told you many times before. With a rank of E, I can’t write a letter of recommendation. If we send in someone who isn’t competent, the adventurer admission recommendation will lose its meaning.”
“But I’m a lot stronger than most D-rank adventurers!”
There was a sudden visitor in the branch manager’s office.
A beautiful girl with crimson hair, matching flaming red cat ears, and a cat tail that stood up straight. A budding red cat, Laguna Pussycat.
In [JRO], the character was the head of the public morals committee at the [Hero Academy] I think.
I see… so Laguna has not enrolled yet? I mean, it was through an adventurer admission recommendation huh.
“Laguna-kun. See, I’ve got the next one coming up, so it’s time to-“
“Hey, you should tell him too! This branch manager doesn’t know what he’s talking about!”
As I was looking at her with this in mind, I was approached by Laguna.
The branch manager was shaking his head in dismay with a “Good grief!”
“…So let’s go with this. Laguna-kun. If you can complete a C-rank or higher request with him over there, you can be promoted to D-rank. Then I’ll be able to write you a letter of recommendation.”
“Really?!”
“Ah, and you there. I’m sure you’re here because you want a letter of recommendation, right? I’ll write you a letter of recommendation if you can handle the request with this girl.”
The branch manager said with a tired look on his face.
In [JRO], Laguna had a moderately resigned personality. I’m sure that if he had mentioned it, he wouldn’t have been stuck like that for hours.
Honestly, it seems like the branch manager has put me in the middle of a nasty situation, but Laguna was one of [JRO]’s characters, and if I could curry favors with her, she might be able to help me repair my engagement with Reyna.
Besides, this kind of forcefulness felt like a [JRO] quest, which was quite intriguing.
“I understand. So, you’re… Laguna, right? I’m Heid-“
“I don’t care what your name is. And if you pull me down, I’ll chew your neck off and kill you.”
“…”
Okay. Well, NPCs in [JRO] tend to be difficult to deal with from the start, but after the quest is over, they tend to become friends somehow. Unlike [JRO], this world has friendly fire.
This quest is going to be a lot of fun.
