Amoral Heir - Chapter 11
Chapter 11
But it’s like a little bitch’s wrath. As if it wasn’t his business, Douglas didn’t even snort.
“Go to your room, change your clothes, and come down to the dining room.”
Even though it wasn’t a very long talk, Douglas cut off once in the middle. When he opened his mouth again after taking a short breath in, his voice was lower than before.
“Cassius is back.”
“Yes? Mr. Douglas, what is that now that you are talking about?”
As if unable to believe what she had just heard, Claudia raised her voice and asked again.
She looked at Douglas sharply. He too met her eyes for the first time, but it was only for a moment.
“I heard that he participated in the Battle of Gibelin and got shot by the enemy. It looks like he was discharged early because he couldn’t receive proper treatment on the battlefield.”
He tilted his head slightly and averted his gaze.
“That child, he has just returned… I don’t know the details. Anyway, let’s have dinner together later. Now… the story of your marriage has to come to an end soon.”
After that, he straightened up again and picked up the quill pen that had been put down on the desk.
It didn’t become clear to her, she didn’t even feel refreshed. The only thing that was certain was that Douglas had given her a celebratory order.
“All right. At dinner later, I’d like to see you.”
Douglas’ unwillingness to speak was there all too well. No matter how many times you hold on and ask questions, you won’t be able to get the answer you want. So Claudia decided to give up the conversation with him neatly. Spreading her skirt wide and bending her knees slightly, she turned slowly, staring at Douglas. But in the end, he never met her gaze again.
Evening.
Claudia simply washed her face, changed her clothes, and went straight down to the dining table. Before the attendant opened the door, she took a deep breath and made up her mind. Douglas had a story to tell.
‘You can’t do it. Rather, now is the right time. I don’t know.’
After forcibly controlling her troubled heart, she nodded briefly. Then, at that signal, the attendant opened the dining hall door as if he had waited. Inside, Douglas had already arrived and was sitting at the head table. Claudia, who tried to enter without hesitation, paused.
It was because he could see a man sitting in the seat closest to the entrance door with his back to the door. It was light blonde. The blond man slowly rose from his seat, apparently feeling her presence.. As his height increased, Claudia’s head gradually lifted up. The man slowly turned to Claudia’s line of sight.
“Welcome, Lady Claudia.”
The moment their gazes meet, his eyes narrow to the point where it feels magical.
“…… I’m late.”
“Waiting for a lady is always greatly fun.”
The man answered with a smile that seemed a bit smirking, and held out his right arm toward Claudia. He meant to escort her to her seat. Claudia, who was staring at his arm stretched out to her side, soon took her eyes off it and looked straight ahead. Her chin was lifted slightly upright.
“It’s okay. it’s not too far.”
Claudia refused the escort and simply passed the man. Then the butler quickly escorted her to her seat.
“Lady Claudia’s seat has been reserved across from Cassius- sama.”
