Amoral Heir - Chapter 12
Chapter 12
The footman pulled the chair lightly. Stepping over to the dining room, she frowned and looked around at everyone who had entered the dining room. The attendants all had expressionless faces.
‘Why.’
Why is no one questioning that man? She stared at the man sitting across from her. The man’s features were much more visible. He was the one she had met earlier in the cemetery.
“I came to pick you up. My fiancee.”
Douglas introduced him as Cassius. At first glance, it looked like Cassius with brilliant blonde hair, and grey eyes.
It’s because he resembled Cassius’s appearance just as it was. She opened her eyes as if trying to find out the man’s identity. Finding something different wasn’t easy. To that extent, the man had a similar appearance to the Cassius she had last seen. Claudia thought. If only she hadn’t followed Douglas this morning, and hadn’t seen Douglas weeping over the nameless tombstone. If that was the case, she would have believed the man in front of her was the real Cassius. What I went through last night was just a bad nightmare.
‘But this Cassius is not real, he is now buried in the churchyard.’
I counted in my mind what I had discovered. The man’s skin was white, but not pale. Rather, it was difficult to think of him as a person who had always been ill because of his complexion. And overall, his body was stronger than the real Cassius. But this could not be the reason that he was fake. First of all, it was because Douglas was calling this man Cassius. It was obvious that everyone would believe Douglas’ words, but not Claudia’s claims.
What the hell is Douglas thinking?
“Are you God?”
They know that she is staring. However, Douglas did not pay attention to Claudia. It was an obvious disregard.
“Let’s start eating.”
At Douglas’ words, a tray of main dishes was brought into the room. Douglas spread the napkin wide and placed it on his thigh. Then, he spoke to Cassius, who was sitting diagonally to his left.
“Anyway, welcome back, Cassius.”
“I’m sorry for worrying you.”
The man bowed his head toward Douglas.
“I was worried because you said you were hurt, but I’m glad I guess it wasn’t anything serious. When I heard the news, my heart sank.”
“It was only a light touch, but Colonel Gospel ordered the discharge. It is embarrassing to think that there has been a commotion.”
“If you do, you have fully fulfilled your duties as a nobleman. So don’t worry about re- enlisting and start marrying Claudia.”
“I will obey your words.”
At that moment, thick veins swelled on the back of Douglas’ hand holding the tableware. His lower jaw hardened as if he had bitten his molars, but that was also short- lived.
Claudia frowned. There was no warmth in the conversation between the two father and son.
‘It’s like… I feel like I’m watching a well- organized play.’
The server cut the roast pig into bite- size pieces. Then, in the order of Douglas, Cassius, and Claudia, they put the well- glazed flesh on the plate.
“Come on, let’s eat.”
The meal began with Douglas’ words. In the dining room, only the rattling of cutlery against dishes could be heard. Usually when it’s just the two of them, Douglas and Claudia, it’s mostly Claudia’s side. They talk, and Douglas replies.
