Amoral Heir - Chapter 7
Chapter 7
Claudia was about to take a step towards the stairs.
“You know, about Miss Claudia.”
At the sound of her name struck in her ears, Claudia couldn’t move as if a nail had been driven into her feet. She hurriedly hid herself behind a wall that turned into a hallway. For some reason, her heart started beating wildly.
“If the young master dies, what will happen to the young lady now?”
“Will she go into a convent?”
“She won’t even get married?”
“The engagement period was very long. She will have a hard time finding a new marriage partner.”
“What to do, she’s pitiful?”
“Shh! Everyone, don’t talk dirty like that outside the room. I know where the secretly listening ears are.”
Claudia, who was hiding behind the wall and listening to them, stopped breathing. It was a whisper that I heard a lot in social circles. Regardless of social status, people’s attitude towards Claudia was generally the same. Kindly in front, but pitying and laughing at her behind the scenes, pretending to be concerned about her situation. When someone’s life falls to the bottom, that person’s life is their own.
She seemed to feel a sense of superiority comparing her life to theirs.
‘You are okay. You did not even hear once or twice, go.’
She comforted herself. In the meantime, the maids got up from their seats holding a bucket of cleaning tools, as if they had finished cleaning their area. Only after their voices had completely disappeared did Claudia emerge from behind the wall. Climbing the stairs with heavy steps like a thousand pounds felt very difficult as she heard the whispers of the maids during the day.
Is it because the night is getting deeper, but Claudia couldn’t sleep. The rain that started to fall in earnest from the moment she arrived in the room only got stronger and stronger. The windows even rattled violently, probably from occasional gusts of wind. It was a dreary night in many ways. She pulled the blanket up to her chin, and forcibly closed her eyes for a long time. She finally let out a deep sigh and turned herself over while still awake.
“I can’t do it like this.”
My heart was very tight. No, it’s the heart that was frustrated.
After lighting the candles, Claudia went to the terrace, walked toward the window, not toward the front door, but towards the backyard. She removed the latch from the middle of the window and opened the window rather hastily. In an instant, the heavy rain soaked her pajamas.
“It’s a bit better though.”
It was a little cumbersome to see the wet cloth clinging to her body, but it felt like the rain was cooling her hot body. She closed her eyes, took a deep breath in the wet air, and narrowed her brows.
“By the way… what is that?”
A faint light from far away was fluttering as if it would go out. It was getting closer and closer. No matter who saw it, the destination of the light was here, the castle of the Marquis Werner. As she expected, the light stopped moving only after arriving at the Marquis Castle. A cart pulled by three men and a horse. It was a modest gathering. They stopped right under Claudia’s room.
‘That’s the kitchen side with the back door??’
Claudia watched the crowd. The men were wearing robes to avoid the rain, so it was hard to recognize who they were. Soon, the room below became brighter.
