Amoral Heir - Chapter 9
Chapter 9
She could see the man’s bangs, slightly protruding below the brim. Could it be because the light from the lightning is reflected? Brilliant blonde hair, never before seen since birth, was intensely etched into her mind. However, it was only for a moment that it could be said that it was a moment that he lost his gaze.
“Claudia?”
Douglas, who had just noticed her presence, called her by name. Claudia took her eyes off the man and simply bowed her head to Douglas.
“Douglas. What is this all about?”
“How can you not sleep until this hour… Did you come down here?”
It was a quiet voice, as if someone was strangling him. Claudia instinctively knew that Douglas was trying to evade an answer.
“Douglas. On that cart…”
Claudia, who was about to ask what was there, couldn’t finish her words. She caught the crumpled paper that had fallen at Douglas’ feet. Then, slowly, she bent down and picked it up. On a piece of paper the size of the palm of her hand, the words ‘warranty notice’ were written on it. Claudia held her breath. She looked at Douglas with quivering eyes.
A voice that seemed not to be mine escaped from my lips.
“Douglas, what is this… is this? What do you mean?”
Her hand holding the paper trembled. Scared to step forward, Douglas snatched it fiercely.
“You.”
Douglas, who was tainted with confusion for a moment, had his face hardened. He seemed to be determined on something and said with a firm voice.
“You don’t have to know anything.”
Claudia opened her lips to say something more, but Douglas raised a hand to block her. Then, as if realizing he had made a face, he returned to his cool expression. He closed his eyes with a tired look on his face. He seemed to have a headache as he opened his mouth while pressing on his temple.
“Take Claudia to the room.”
“Yes, master.”
“Wait a minute, Mr. Douglas!”
The butler went to Claudia and turned her body around. There was enough strength in his hands that it could be described as a little coercive. The butler, Douglas, everyone seemed to be trying to get her away from the cart.
“The war with Gibelin isn’t over yet, so everyone please be careful. “
“Tonight, you haven’t seen anything. What to do with Cassius’ body? I wonder if that will handle it…… I will try to think a little more.”
“Yes, Your Excellency the Marquis.”
Despite the increasing distance, Douglas’s terribly low voice caught her ear. The blood drained from Claudia’s face. I couldn’t believe what I just heard. As Claudia was dragged away by the butler, she kept looking back. It was a gesture that seemed to be persecuting her.
“Wait. Douglas, please explain. Is that a corpse? A warrior notice? I don’t understand anything. Mr. Douglas, Cassius…is dead. Are you saying he’s dead? Marquis Douglas! Please answer me!”
But there was no reply from Douglas. Then she blinked rapidly. It was because the tall man who had first become aware of her existence when the lightning struck came into her sight again. The man was still wearing a robe. The hood covered more than half of his face, so even though she couldn’t clearly see his eyes… she felt as if their eyes met strangely. The corners of the man’s mouth exposed under the torchlight drew a perfect arc.
