Devour Poison - Chapter 3
Chapter 3
The castle where Amelia’s father was the lord of the castle could not withstand the fierce barbarians. Amelia, who hid in the closet in her room with her younger sister, hugged Emily, who was snuggling like a baby bird in her arms, even harder. As the rough voices of the men and the fierce gestures of people taking loot to commemorate the victory slowly got closer, Amelia’s body suddenly stiffened. The unintelligible and barbaric language that was different from the imperial language scared her even more. Stroking her younger sister’s back with a trembling hand was the only courage she could muster in the current situation.
Amelia buried her lips in young Emily’s head and searched for God as was her habit.
I even held my breath, fearing that the beast- like men would notice even the slightest sign of popularity.
The sound of rummaging through the furniture in the bedroom was clearer than any other sound. Amelia found it difficult to keep her eyes open, so she closed them tightly and hugged Emily tightly. The small hand holding her collar tightly was her only salvation.
“I found it here!”
And the cruel god abandoned Amelia once again. Despite the men’s rough handling of the rats as if they were catching them, Amelia didn’t let go of Emily.
Even though she couldn’t keep her balance and fell to the floor as one body, Amelia held Emily tightly. Even though she cried out loud because she couldn’t overcome her fear, Emily snuggled deeper into her arms as she told her not to let go of her hand. Although he couldn’t answer because she was crying, she felt relieved when he saw Emily holding on to her tightly.
“Emily, you must not let go of your sister. You must never let go. Never.”
Maybe that was something she was saying to herself.

Shakar lupus. A wolf that eats the dawn. The man with the grandiose name was the young leader of a barbarian tribe. Having willingly stained his hands with the blood of countless brothers, he made all the wild barbarians kneel before him and swear obedience. He was not satisfied with ruling over the barbarians and even took control of a wide empire. So he was a great hero and king to the barbarians. But to the people of the empire, he was a murderer, nothing more, nothing less. He said that there was not a single blade of grass left in the places his unit passed through. His temper is so cruel that even the lord of the castle who declared his own surrender does not know how to embrace it.
The rumor that they would be slaughtered all at once was a rumor that even Amelia, who had no idea about the world, knew. Amelia comforted Emily, who was crying in her arms, and lowered her head and kissed her cheek. Some of the men laughed at her, as if it was funny to see her trying to comfort her younger sister with her trembling body.
Among them was Shakhar Lupus. He, who was sitting comfortably in the seat of the castle lord, approached Amelia with curious eyes. The barbarians were fundamentally different from the imperial people. Even among the large- boned barbarian men, Shakar Lupus was noticeably taller.
