Imprint Of Count Wolf - Chapter 2
Chapter 2
“The Duke of Aida is of Royal descent right? So how can I possibly marry a mere Count?! How can His Majesty act like this towards the Duke of Aida!”
Eleonora bursted into tears. With her pretty blonde hair in disarray, her beautiful eyes and her pretty lips turned red. Regardless of his territory, wealth, and military power, to Eleonora, Count Arnulf only felt like a shabby rural nobleman who had never danced in the social circles of the capital.
The Duke of Aida didn’t think much differently from Eleonora. He was aware of Count Arnulf’s wealth, but the Duke is the King’s cousin. In status, he represents the Royal family, and on the surface he showed off the Dukedom’s prestige. If his father had been a little smarter and more determined, maybe he might have been the obvious candidate for the throne, and he could control the fate of his precious daughter.
He had expressed his protest against the marriage proposal to the King himself.
“Your Majesty, how can you do this to my family? The Dukedom of Aida is the Royal family’s collateral. Royalty follows the traditions of intermarriage with only Royalty. How can you arrange a marriage with a Count?!!”
“Is the Royal family’s sideline status enough for you to even stand with the Count of Arnulf?! Didn’t you even hear that the Duke of Logan himself sent a proposal to Count Arnulf as well?” The King stated a bit impatiently, obvious traces of anger in his voice.
“I heard, but…”
“Then, is Eleonora in a position to lead Duke Logan’s first princess by lineage and status?!” The king shouted, slamming the armrests. “Or, are Aida’s officials better than Arnulf because of their wealth? If not, does the Duke have the wisdom to fill the void, if Arnulf married into the Logan Dukedom and passed on his influence there?!”
“Your Majesty… ” The Duke of Aida hesitated in front of the King’s logic.
“If you don’t want to anger this King any further, don’t talk about this anymore. If I fathered a Princess, I would not have hesitated to marry her off to Count Arnulf for the good of my Kingdom.”
“The proposal would have been given to Count Renulf’s new bride, if she hadn’t gotten married. It’s just a pity that I had to choose Eleonora because of her bad luck.”
The Duke of Aida was not convinced by the King’s words, but he did not have the courage to face his anger again.
The Duke of Aida was not very rich in the first place. If he thought of rebelling against the King then, his Dukedom’s only support, the Royal family, would disappear.
So, he tried to coax Eleonora to become Arnulf’s Countess.
“You will have dozens of jewelry boxes filled with rubies and diamonds, and dozens of wardrobes filled with lotus-like sable fur and silk.”
