Reborn As A Cripple - Chapter 13
About two weeks after the exams, I received a letter from the inn where I was staying.
A profound letter with a red stamp on it.
When I opened the package and looked at the content, I saw the word [Passed] written on it.
…Relieved by the word, I took out another piece of paper.
In there the scores of the written and practical exams could be found.
The written exam consisted of five subjects: Japanese, Math, Magical Knowledge, History, and Adventurer Knowledge, each was worth 100 points out of a total of 500 points.
For the practical test, all five of the battles are considered white stars.
“All right”
“Woohooo!”
As I gave a small nod and made a guts pose, I heard a very loud voice in the next room. The voice turned into the sound of clattering footsteps, and then into the sound of my door slamming open.
“Heid, I passed!”
“Nya?”
It was Laguna.
…Although she has cat ears and a tail, I don’t think she’s the type of person to say [Nya] at the end of sentences…
“I-I just bit my tongue!”
“You did? It was kinda cute”
“…Well, if Heid says so, it would be a shame to add [Nya] at the end of words…meowever”
As Laguna says a little sluggishly and blushing as much as the color of her hair.
“Pff-, no, you don’t have to if you’re too embarrassed though?”
“I-, I wasn’t overdoing it! I’m sorry, I’m not very good at this cutesy stuff”
When you have cat ears and a tail that draw you in, I think it’s impossible to not look cute at all.
“A-, aside from that, Heid! Look at this! I passed!”
“Ohh. Congrats”
Laguna then showed me the acceptance form. Five white stars and zero black stars in the practical test. For the written exam, she got 270 points in 5 subjects… which was lower than I expected.
From what I’ve heard the classes at the Hero Academy are divided according to the entrance exam scores to a certain extent, and from the looks of it, it looks like Laguna, and I will be in different classes.
“Speaking of other people. Did Heid maybe not pass…”
“No, I passed it. I more or less got a perfect score on the written exam.”
“Pe-, perfect score?! I-, it’s amazing. As expected of Heid, but if you got a perfect score, you shouldn’t be feeling bitter about it, you should be very happy!”
“Even if I was told to be happy. W-wait, did I make such kind of face?”
“…Not really, if you asked me. But if you’ve passed the test, let’s have a grandiose celebration!”
As she said that, Laguna spread her arms open.
I-is this a hug? It’s true that when you get excited or happy you get the sense of wanting to hug someone, and passing an exam is certainly a turning point in one’s life…
At least for today, this much is ok, I guess?
I then gave Laguna a cautious hug and was thrown straight to the ceiling. I hit my head on the ceiling with a thud.
“…What are you doing!”
“S-sorry. I was trying to lift you up, but I got carried away!”
“No, well, it’s okay, I didn’t get hurt so it’s fine”
For the past two weeks, my level has risen to 20. I have a good amount of defense, so hitting my head to the ceiling won’t hurt me.
…Rather, I was afraid that the ceiling would get damaged, but when I looked up, I was relieved that the ceiling was still intact. I don’t know how much it would cost if I was told to pay for the repairs.
If it happened, I would split the bill with Laguna.
Now that I’ve received the acceptance letter, all I had to do was complete the enrollment procedures and wait for the entrance ceremony at the beginning of next month.
And the entrance ceremony came by in a flash.
◇
“April, the month when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom. We, new students of the Hermenea Hero Academy are entering this month, and as I stand here on stage, I admit that I am not the best person in this year’s freshmen class.”
The entrance ceremony. It is an event that marks the start of school life, an event filled with hopes and dreams.
…In my previous life it was painful to sit and listen to other people’s copy-paste greetings to the students with no individuality in them, and the act of just sitting for a long time was simply a pain in the ass, and to tell the truth, it was an event that I disliked, but in this world it was different.
This is the famous Hermenea Hero Academy in the world of my favorite JRO, in many ways. This is the only thing that gets my heart racing, but the person in front of me giving the freshman address is Reyna, who was my fiancé until last month.
…She’s become such a fine person.
I raised that girl up. Well, not really.
However, when I think about the fact that this school has characters with one or two quirks that appeared in JRO, I naturally feel elated.
“In this school, there are many people from this country and other countries that have qualities of being a hero. Some of them may even be stronger than me.
On the other hand, there may be people who are weaker than me right now but will become stronger than me in the future.
Nevertheless, I will struggle to surpass those who are stronger than me, and I will not be proud to be weaker than those who are weaker than me, and I will pledge to work tirelessly to become a noble and righteous hero.
Greetings from a new student. Reyna Hermenea”
Reyna showed a graceful bow and then stepped down from the platform.
I clapped vigorously at Reyna’s greeting. Other people were also moved by Reyna’s appearance, perhaps shedding tears or applauding, and the applause was so loud that it almost cracked the venue.
Maybe I’m being self-conscious, but I think Reyna was looking at the whole time during the greeting. I was just saying that I’d be happy if that were the case.
However, after being impressed by Reyna’s greeting, I felt a bit giddy.
That’s right. It was time for announcing the class placements.
The homeroom teacher would appear in front to sort people in classes, and if one is in A-Class for example, their name would be called in order of attendance of that class. Only then could they figure out which class they’d be in.
By the way, the student whose name is called must respond with a clear voice.
It was a system that I disliked in my previous life, and to be honest, I wasn’t that keen on it either in this life. If I let out a small voice I don’t want to be told “I can’t hear you. Please try again.” So I’m going to answer as loud as possible so that I only have to do it once.
While I was thinking about this, the names of the students in classes A, B, C, and D, were called out. Of the four, A had the most talented students, while D was the most questionable of the bunch.
And there were also two classes that remained, E and S.
The E-class had the most students who were failing in this school.
On the other hand, S-class has students of outstanding talent and were particularly brilliant.
For example, Reyna, who gave a speech as a representative of the new students, would definitely be in S-class. I got perfect scores in both the written and practical exams, and I’m probably confirmed to be in S-class.
On the other hand, Laguna didn’t do well on her written exam, so she’d probably be in D, or E if she hasn’t been called up yet. I think that she could have gotten S if she had mastered ‘Beastification’.
It’s out of character for this school to leave the S at the end and give hope to E-class students. Well, I guess most people know what they are capable of, and no one really has any hope.
As I waited for the announcement of the S-class that I would be in, I listened to the E-class students being called up.
“Heid. Mr. Heid. Please reply! E-class, Heid.”
“…Eh? Y-yes!”
…Uhh. What? I’m in the lowest class, the E-class?
“Heid, we’re in the same class!”
“Huh? Oh, yeah…”
I stared into the void as I replied to Laguna’s words.
…Me, in E-class?
I had perfect scores in both written and practical exams. But E-class?
I had an idea of why. It was probably because of my ‘Occupation’.
But still, I couldn’t help but lament the absurdity of this world.
“The ‘Farmer’ is the most powerful job in the world. I think the people in this country are idiots for treating single one of us poorly.”

Hello everyone, Kenado here. Thanks for reading. I apologize for not posting chapters for the past few months due to my studies at school and my current schedule. And also, I will have a slow release at 1 or 2 chapters per month because of this reason. Thank you again and see you in the next chapter! 🙂
