Sigrid - Chapter 40
Chapter 40: Veramood Lunatil
“I was training nearby.”
“Training?”
“Yes, training in the forest makes me feel better.” Sigrid laid out the excuses she had prepared in advance.
“Well, thanks to you, I survived.”
In response to Serios’ answer, Sigrid knelt down on one knee and bowed her head. “It is an honor to meet you, Your Highness the Crown Prince. May you have the endless blessings.”
“It’s kind of funny to be greeted like this.” Serious sighed lightly and ordered, “get up.”
Serious was curious about the identity of the knight in front of him, but that was for later. He then turned to Veramood. “I’m so relieved that the third and fourth monsters won’t come out.”
“Let’s get out of here before that.” Veramood said firmly.
The injured men groaned quietly. The number of dead soldiers was also considerable.
“The Marquis of Pienna….”
“I don’t care.”
Serious frowned as Veramood spoke as if cut off his words.
“The horses are running away, there wounded are many, so how are we going to get out of here?” Serious did not contradict Veramood’s words and pointed out the reality.
Veramood looked at Sigrid. “Horse.”
“What?”
“You wouldn’t have walked all the way here, would you?”
“Well,”
Sigrid lowered her hand as she was about to call her horse, and Veramood turned around too.
Serious asked softly. “What?”
“Get back to the carriage, Your Highness.”
Serious reluctantly got back on the carriage after hearing Sigrid’s words.
Veramood whispered to Sigrid. “How many?”
“Four, five, six, seven, maybe ten.”
“Sigrid.”
“Yeah?” Sigrid listened. Lift? Right? Which one will she take?
Veramood leaned his torso closer to Sigrid and whispered into her head. “I’m glad you came.”
“!!”
His breath reached her ear, and Sigrid squinted her eyes and glanced back at Veramood. He was smiling at her.
Sigrid ignored him and raised her voice. “Gather the wounded behind the carriage. Let those with intact limbs protect the wounded. We will take the enemies.”
“Hey, do you know that the person who gives the orders is me? I’m the leader. It’s me.”
“The leader of this place is the crown prince. And I also have the authority to give orders to soldiers.”
“But I’m the only one who can command you.”
“You seem to keep taking out his highness the crown prince.”
“Anyway, you’re now my subordinate.”
“That’s right. It’s temporary.”
“What?” Veramood laughed.
Sigrid looked at her sword, where the monster’s blood had begun to dry out. “I’ve paid off all my debts with this.”
“What?”
“I will give back my temporary position when this situation is over.”
“Wait, you really decided everything at your own discretion.”
“They’re coming.”
Veramood clicked his tongue. But he was also aware that the enemies were coming.
Veramood, followed by Sigrid, began to walk away from the carriage. They walked for a quiet distance so that the aftermath of the fight did not reach the carriage, but they were still in a radius where they could protect the carriage if something happened.
‘That one talent.’
His personality was annoying, but she had no choice but to acknowledge his abilities.
Sigrid swallowed her dissatisfaction and looked at the running enemies. Their whole body was wrapped in black clothes, but the weapon they were holding was not cheap. Those ten enemies all wore the same clothes and carried the same weapon. In addition to that, their attack wasn’t like how gangster fight. Their ability was like a trained fighter.
‘Are they bandits?”
If there were bandits like these in the Empire, someone should seriously advise His Majesty to mobilize the entire Knight Order to subdue them.
Sigrid clicked his tongue and adjusted herself to Veramood’s move. She fought him hundreds of times in the past. Because of that, she was accustomed to the way he fight, which make her have no difficulty matching his move.
It was Veramood who was surprised.
‘It’s comfortable.’
It was the first time they were working together. However, even though it was the first time, he felt comfortable, as if they had been working together for a long time. Her sword came in and out where and when he wanted. When he turned his body, that sword knew what it should be done. It was a thrilling feeling. The fight was really enjoyable even during the battle, laughter came out of his mouth.
After slashing the last person, Veramood took a deep breath and looked at the sword’s blade. It seemed like she had to change the sword.
“These people must have come on horseback too.”
Veramood laughed. “They must be. But Sigrid.”
“Yes?”
“Don’t we get along very well?”
Sigrid wanted to say ‘No, it was one-sided tailored by me. It’s my ability.’ but she didn’t dare to say it. Because she couldn’t imagine the reaction she got later.
Veramood opened his mouth with a serious face. “Don’t you think, we’ll get along well on our bed?”
Sigrid opened her mouth for a moment, then recalled Marisuez’s advice. “Don’t, Sir.”
“Huh?”
“Don’t do this.”
“….”
Veramood opened his mouth slightly, then began to laugh crazily which made Sigrid wrinkle her forehead.
Veramood then chuckled while he retrieved the enemies; horses. He thought he would be fine for a while, yet he couldn’t help but burst into laughter again as he tied the horse to the carriage.
As they entered the capital, Sigrid said, “farewell, Sir.”
Then she looked straight into Veramood’s eyes. “Thank you for the temporary appointment, Sir. Lunatil. I give back the honorable position to you, Sir.”
After saying firmly, Sigrid turned around and walked away.
Veramood chuckled, muttering, “Oh, what shall I do? I really don’t want to miss her.”
He took a deep breath. The smile faded from his face, and a brief feeling of fatigue flashed through him. Now he has to send the Crown Prince and his wife back to the palace, leave the injured soldiers at the infirmary, and do a bunch of paperwork for the dead soldiers. It was painful to lose soldiers in an unexpected situation. Serios would compensate them generously. No, it was not compensation, but a consolation. Nothing could compensate for death.
‘It’s going to be a long night.’
Veramood sighed.
