Winter Hunting - Chapter 4
Chapter 4
“They can’t hunt during the Duke’s winter hunting period. They said that they will stay in the village until the forest is open again, then they will go hunting. My dad said that there are no beasts that the special hunters can’t catch.”
Special hunters were those who did not stay in a specific place and constantly moved around to hunt. Rather than hunting rabbits and foxes, they mainly hunted beasts that are priced high. Because of this, they usually faced great danger.
They also did other things besides hunting. For example, if they were told to chase someone, to find an object, to send something from a distant place… or to kill a person. Basically, nomad mercenaries.
“Are you okay?”
“What?”
As if she couldn’t understand Ariste’s words, Mila asked through her eyes. ‘You know what they are doing, plus they are people from outside.’
Ariste bit her lips when she tried to speak out. It wasn’t because of the hunters, however, the moment Mila said that, it was almost as if she was saying that she was also an outsider.
“They’re those who do rough things. It isn’t just hunting.”
“Oh, don’t worry. They seem to know the village chief too.”
“They know the village chief?”
“Huh? They won’t stay here for a long time.”
“It’s like that.” Ariste wasn’t familiar with it, so she had to think about it for a long time.
“Even if the village chief thought it was troublesome, would he have given up the town? Whether the money came from something unusual the village didn’t care, so he asked for coins. How many packets of coins was given…everyone has their eyes wide open!”
“How much is it?”
Mila put her thumb and forefinger and rubbed it together.
“Gold coins?”
“Yeah, maybe they are going to camp all night. They say they can’t even enter the forest during winter hunting.”
Only then did she understand the strange excitement in the village. A situation like a ray of light arrived in the village that was on the verge of destruction because of this winter. When the village had food and money, their hearts would naturally become generous, so Ariste was relieved about it as well.
“Well, it smells delicious…how long has this been?”
Mila felt like stretching.
“That’s why they opened the food warehouse.” At Ariste’s words, Mila nodded.
“Isn’t it good? It’s been a long time since I smell the scent of meat.”
Old people, young children, adults, all of them became excited. It’s almost like a festival.
“Did the village chief feel took out a lot? Look, he even wants to have a festival today.”
The problem of going through the winter was life-threatening for everyone. Since he was responsible for the livelihood of the villagers, the village chief was particularly sensitive to this problem. Since the beginning of winter, Ariste hasn’t seen his expression turn bright for a moment.
“So, it was like that.”
Firewood piled up in the central square of the village.
The frozen meat that had been stored in the warehouse for emergency was loaded on a cart outside.
