Duke’s beautiful tailor - Chapter 24
Chapter 24
“Can’t I sleep later? I still need to do this.”
“No, do it tomorrow night. Don’t do anything, just sleep. You must go to bed early today.”
Helena sighed in dissatisfaction, but then nodded her head.
May was right. Tomorrow’s tea party was the first meeting outside since her father had been in an accident. It was also a place to inform that <Book of Knights> was still alive, so it was not very wise to go with a haggard appearance.
As Helena lay in bed, May applied a lot of smoothing lotion to her face and arms. When Helena smiled and wished goodnight, May got up in the middle of the night to find out that Helena had been embroidering.
Yes, she took the duke’s clothes and went to cut some cloth off.
Helena smiled bitterly at May’s sharp intuition and finally closed her eyes. She thought she wouldn’t be able to fall asleep, but surprisingly, she fell asleep right away. Perhaps it was because she was tired from making clothes all day.
The next day, Helena attended the Countess of Cashford’s tea party, looking a little nervous. She had planned to go to the countess’ mansion early and hide in a corner of the garden. She didn’t want to gain people’s attention by going late.
Thanks to the wealth and fame they had built up over the years, the Studs were often invited to parties of the nobility.
Ladies of a certain age often spoke of <Book of Knights> for their husband’s or son’s clothes, and through their various life experiences, they were well aware of the many benefits of respecting the Stud family, even if they were commoners.
However, some of the immature aristocratic girls were displeased with Helena, a mere commoner, attending social gatherings with them.
If Helena had been the daughter of Mrs. Boswell, the owner of <Rose Garden>, noble ladies might have tried to get to know her sooner or later, greedy for a chance to obtain more beautiful dresses.
But Helena is not a noblewoman.
Helena was the daughter of a man who made clothes for noblemen. Because of this, noble ladies, who had no interest in the Stud family, would sometimes openly disregard her or make sarcastic remarks.
Based on her many years of experience, Helena was careful not to be noticed by noble girls as much as possible when invited to social gatherings like this. It was advantageous in many good ways to wear modest and plain clothes and just smile politely while being buried among the elderly ladies.
But on this day, things were different.
“Oh, Helena, how’s your father?”
A big round-faced lady with clear blue eyes welcomed her.
As soon as the countess saw Helena, she asked with a face full of sympathy. Her face had a few wrinkles left over from the years, but her complexion was so good that her face didn’t match her age.
“He improved a lot. Thank you for your concern, Countess. Thank you so much for the bouquet you sent that last time.”
“I heard that your father was seriously injured. I was shocked when I heard he had an accident. But really, I’m happy that you made it here.”
The Countess of Cashford, in exaggerated movements, hugged Helena and even patted her on the back.
“But recently, in <Book of Knights>, I heard that they are making clothes for the Duke of Bronant. Is that true?”
