Duke’s Exclusive Painter - Chapter 40
Chapter 40
In panic, Roselia jumped out of the carriage and hurriedly ran to the orphanage. However, other than this abandoned building, there was no one in the orphanage, and this is causing her so much anxiety. There were no children running around the orphanage’s yard, nor the director, who always cared for them kindly.
After going around the orphanage and checking it carefully, Roselia returned to the carriage, depressed. Cedric, who was leaning out of the carriage window before he knew it, asked her as she approached.
“They haven’t contacted you?”
“Yeah. They did not say anything…”
Apparently, the orphanage was being demolished. This sudden news shocked Roselia greatly. Her head was pounding because she wasn’t the only one in the orphanage.
However, what was most urgent now was her residence. Roselia, who lost her home in an instant, was unable to speak in her desolation.
Cedric glanced at Roselia, then looked at the orphanage that was about to collapse, and slowly opened his mouth, “Will you come to me?”
Roselia’s gaze that had been fluctuating aimlessly with anxiety, turned to him at once. Cedric leaned his back on the carriage, then folded his arms as he looked at her calmly.
“You’ve been there before, at my mansion.”
It was only after hearing what he had to say that Roselia could fully understand his meaning. In an instant, the thought circuit went into a stiff halt at his words that gave off a strange feeling as if she was being proposed to. Seeing him saying it casually, my vain expectations made me feel even more ridiculous.
“But, if I trouble the Duke…”
“If I thought you were a nuisance, I would have kicked you out from the very beginning.”
To be honest, I could help but worry. As I became more and more conscious of him, I had an urge to get as far away from him as possible. But that was only possible when I had a proper place to live.
Now, Roselia was in an unfortunate situation where she had to catch even a rotten rope. Otherwise, I’ll surely spend the night outside.
Didn’t that mean spending the night on the streets?
This time, it was Cedric who crossed the line first. It was never Roselia who first persuaded him to let her stay in his mansion.
Even with so much rationalization, she still couldn’t calm her heartbeat, which keeps rising as time goes by.
“Then…”
Roselia bowed her head in gratitude.
Cedric patted her hair as it slowly moved upwards, then he climbed into the carriage. The place he touched was like a hot fever spreading all over.
Roselia, who had been stroking exactly where the Duke had just touched her, got into the carriage after him.
